Tennis is one of the most mentally-challenging sports, playable by anyone. That is, as long as you have the stamina too. It’s a sport invented to be enjoyed even if you are not san athlete yourself. After all, it makes you think like you are running a business (Bill, n.d.). A tennis player, whether amateur or professional, can experience the sport first-hand while the outsider, the observer, can experience the thrill of the sport by watching the players play the game. The experience of enjoying tennis is obviously different from a player’s point of view to an outsider’s point of view. Yet, there should be similarities somehow, if not a correlation to each other. The main basis, however, lies on how the player and the outsider experience tennis, its tactics and its thrills from each of their corresponding perspectives..
Tennis as a Sport
Tennis does not limit itself to any age, gender, or physique (both the well-blessed body and the handicapped). The equipment mainly used for this mental sport comprises of the cord-strung racket that is used in striking a hollow rubber felt-covered ball. Playable in grass, clay, hard, and carpet courts, tennis extends its playability to singles and doubles category. The doubles category is divided into all men, all women, and mixed. The most usually acknowledged means of playing tennis falls into the singles category, casually hitting or competitively hitting to score a match. Meanwhile, if there are many players, if you want to enhance your reaction skills, or if you prefer to test your strategy-making skills and teamwork, you’d fall into the doubles category because the rallies are frequently at the net and fast-paced that you have to pace yourself mentally too (Sporty HQ, 2017).
