The world is changing rapidly due to the dizzying rate of change and advancement in technology. Virtually every field is experiencing these changes, especially engineering. Technological advancement in engineering has actually been the main driver that has made the other changes to be greatly felt. The fact that these changes can be felt by almost everyone is testament enough that engineering touches a lot of people and hence a need for interpersonal understanding. Since I was a child, I have always had this urge to use my hands to change the environment I was in. I especially loved how engineering could create something out of practically nothing, and the new creation would go on to be of much help to people. It is because of this reason that I have opted to pursue an M.Sc. degree in Middlesex University, London. There are other reasons why I am so interested in this program.
First is my family background. I am originally from Hong Kong. I come from a family that is largely made up of engineers. The fact that I grew up in an environment filled with engineers directly and indirectly inspired me to admire being one. They became my role models. They often made it look so nice and interesting, and this ignited my passion for it. I however took another path in design, as I found myself captivated by things to do with it. My family therefore set up the foundation upon which I came to love so much about creativity.
Secondly was my passion for science. This love for the subject is a long affair that goes back to the time I was in my formative years. I often used to find physics and mathematics to be so intriguing and exciting at the same time. Solving equations, finding out the values of physical constants and establishing a connection between the results and reality. As time went by, I also came to appreciate the excitement and fulfillment that comes along with having to run a project to completion. Be it in design or engineering, successful completion of a project calls for paying a lot of attention to the details. Every little step matters towards the bigger picture. However, my specific interest was in the project management aspect.
My educational journey where I initially got interest was in the University of California, where I majored in Design. It was a great experience for me as I came to learn more about the additional bits of design. Before then, I had attended Interior Design majors at Bellevue College. I appreciate this foundation as it provided me with the technical knowledge needed to carry out tasks to do with interior design using a wide range of utilities. Slowly by slowly, I started getting more exposure and experience as far as the field was concerned.
