The speech would be attractive to the audience since it would encourage them to defend freedom and democracy. The goal of the Funeral Oration is to persuade listeners. In the speech, Pericles heaps praise on Athens and encourage listeners to keep fighting and defending their country. By appreciating the sacrifices of the dead, the orator encourages others to imitate them. This paper focuses on the impact of the funeral oration, its structure and some of its essential elements.
The speech outlines the duties of a citizen and the importance of war to achieve justice (Thucydides and Pericles).
