I agree with the quote by Martin Luther King, Jr. that "one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws." What would a community benefit from obeying and following unjust laws? I chose to support this quote because the context of obeying unfair rules and regulations reveals intimidation and a lack of democracy. Knowing the definition of democracy as the government of the people, by the people and for the people gives me an ultimate view in the legal following of just laws and moral disobedience to unjust laws (Mingo). On the other hand, some people may want to know how a person can advocate and eventually implement obeying some laws while breaking others. In this case, the position of the code in the implementation of justice should determine the status of a person in either obedience or disobedience (Intercollegiate Studies Institute). Hence, although all laws are made to maintain order in various institutions like schools, workplaces, and even countries, people should only obey the just laws and engage the moral responsibility of disobeying and rejecting unjust laws.
People must know the difference between just and unjust laws to identify what deserves obedience and what does not. How can one determine whether a law is just or unjust? According to (Intercollegiate Studies Institute), “a just law is a human-made code that squares with the moral law or the law of God. An unjust law is a code that is out of harmony with the moral law.” In this case, one can recognize the institution of both just and unjust laws and take the moral action of deviating from the latter....
