Contemporary Literature
Contemporary literature entails reality-based stories that various authors composed after World War II to the current day. The literary works include poetry and works of fiction, such as essays, dramatic works, and novels. According to Dipple, contemporary literature reflects the social and political viewpoints in the society that are evident through realistic characters with a connection to current events in different parts of the world (54). The authors of contemporary literature explored cultural practices across the United States and potential future based on the themes of optimism, despair, and religiosity. Norman Mailer and Irwin Shaw were ideal examples of novelists, who explored the cultural impact and technological horror of the World War II through the works The Naked and the Dead (1948) and The Young Lions (1948) respectively.
