The US attracts many international students every year, of which 40% are of Chinese origin. When these Chinese students arrive in the US, they use Facebook messenger alongside WeChat messenger. Wechat is a native Chinese messaging app that was developed by Tencent Technologies for Chinese consumers because their government blocks Facebook in their country (Xu and Jianhua 27). They also claimed that they were in pursuit of better education, which they could not access in China.
Another goal of Chinese international students is to create a social network and connect with people with the same ideologies. WeChat provides them with the right platform to achieve their goal of networking with each other.
