The New Generation
There is a difference between today’s generation of young adults and the previous generations. In determining the generation gap difference, one must consider intellectual, cultural, and economic changes. There is a difference in how the generations think their participation in cultural practices and the nature of their surroundings. Today’s generation has seen great advancements in technological development compared to the previous generation. The use of social media has become rampant as compared to the previous generations where there was minimal technology. Every generation exhibits a unique value, either behavioral or intellectual. Both the new and the previous generations exhibit diverse changes.
Firstly, there is the difference in intellectual levels. Today’s generation is more educated as compared to the other previous generations. Their high intellectual level emanates from the advanced technology and improvement of education curriculum. Today’s generation can access high amount of knowledge from the internet, books and their high-qualified tutors (Twenge, Campbell & Freeman 1047). Education levels have also been elevated up to the Ph.D. level. In the past generations, the highest educational attainment was the graduate level, and resources for learning were limited compared to today’s resources. Even though some may argue that the many young people learn less because of the distraction their devices such as mobile phones, I tend to disagree since the devices exercise the greater good since they help attainment of more knowledge. Moreover, in today’s generation, people begin their education at a very young age as compared to other previous generations.
Secondly, there is a difference in their engagement with cultural practices. Today’s generation has a low level of community involvement as compared to other previous generations (Twenge, Campbell & Freeman 1046). In the era of the previous generation, cultural practices such as monthly festival...
