Cultural Identity: Chinese Background

Name: Professor’s name: Course: Date: Cultural Identity Introduction It is upon some soul searching that I recently came to realize that my Chinese background plays a significant role in who I become in future and my interactions with other people. It dawned on me that it is the community from which a person originates that shapes the way they carry out their daily activities in life and relate to other individuals from other backgrounds. I came to learn that the strong sense of belonging and attachment to my family as well the country determines or rather influences the impression I create to other members of the global community. Both the Chinese and my family’s values, principles, and traditions are part of my cultural identity upon which I relate with other people. Like in most communities around the world, the Chinese children are supposed to revere and respect their elders as any form of rebellion such as arguing with parents is a scornful act. Unlike in the United States where one can or is allowed to speak their mind to anyone irrespective of the age difference, the Chinese culture features a lot of rules guiding such relations and interactions CITATION PSU19 \l 1033 (PSU-PKU). On one occasion, upon returning to China from the United States, my uncle took me for a long walk as he went on about how to carry myself as an individual of Chinese cultural background. I got to learn the important lesson of respecting my elders as well as upholding the family values and traditions whether in China or the United States.
