Critical Analysis of TV: Part 1
Description: Perform a critical analysis of your favorite TV show to
identify how certain attitudes, behaviors, and/or beliefs are operating.
Step 1:
• Choose a television show to analyze.
Step 2:
• Think about what aspects of life or society are regularly present in the show
• Pick one aspect to analyze
o Race, men, women, class, marriage, intelligence, dating, wealth, children, teens, mothers, fathers, bosses, employees, drugs, crime, violence, religion, workplace, offices, police, family structure, values, etc.
Step 3:
• Watch five episodes of your show spread out over one or multiple seasons. In other words, don't watch five successive episodes in order.
• Take notes on each episode in your Writer's Notebook.
o Create ONE entry on your Table of Contents and in your Writer's Notebook called “TV Evidence” o Write the name of each episode and then take notes immediately under the name o The number of notes will vary for each episode, but you want to be thorough and record EVERYTHING you notice related to your chosen aspect.

Prodigal Son is a procedural TV show that focuses on peculiar civilian fatherhood, intelligence, crimes, and law enforcement. The show is centered around Malcolm Bright, portrayed as a brilliant profiler with the proficient ability to “get inside the mind of a serial killer.” Malcolm gets fired from the FBI while working as a criminal psychologist because of his unorthodox methodology and family connections.
