The Story of an Hour is about a woman, Louise Mallard, who is informed that her husband has died in a train accident. Her grief turns into elation as she courts the idea of freedom, but this comes to an end as her husband returns, making her die in shock. The Lottery is a story about a small village that holds a "lottery" each year to ensure a good harvest. In this particular year, all the family heads pick small slips of paper from a black box. Bill Hutchinson gets the slip with a black spot. Then the family members draw slips, and his wife Tessie receives the marked slip. The villagers then proceed to stoning her to death.
