To introduce the topic, drug use has been a long standing issue in American society since time immemorial. What stayed through the years is the constant use but the sources have been just as ever-changing. There have been a lot of views with regard to drug use because the primary challenge posed in a progressive society is whether or not it should be a problem to be eliminated or is it a problem meant to teach the administrators of today to adapt to. Nevertheless, recent studies from credible publishers still weigh in on the adverse effects of substance use and abuse.
In order to pose a more relevant manner of discussion, I have chosen to talk about drug use in college students. This may have more implications in the grand scheme of things but in order to tackle the major concerns posed to legislators and other experts in the field, we must first dive into the grassroots. In a reality where there remains a semblance of order as in a college campus or university, we see that a problem like this has been more of a given than otherwise. So, must we, as spectators or potential users ourselves, fight to eradicate or adapt?
This is a commentary on certain articles handpicked from the internet that showcase the varying degrees of involvement we have with drug users and the scientifically-backed issues they pose. He has been marked with a history of substance-abuse and this was not new to those who follow the NFL and from those surrounding him. He was reckless, and used to drive under the influence. Still, athletes like him still got cut the most slack because of their skills on the field. How about those he could have potentially hurt? It makes to mention that the spotlight has been put on this player because his suspensions impeded his performance but other than that, his drug abuse—whether or not he has taken steps to clean his act—was not talked about in the article.
This brings us to observe those in the immediate surroundings of a college student who is held to be a user and abuser of drugs. What has been their role? By this time, it is a lot more common to have a friend or family member involved with substance says John Gramlich from the Pew Research Center. In a recent survey by the same, it has been found that 46% of adults in the United States have a drug addict in a friend or family member (Gramlich, “Nearly”).
The center has found also no leanings in political disposition or race which means that the results have truly spoken to the majority. The drugs listed include not just marijuana but cocaine, heroin, hallucinogens, methamphetamine, and even prescription drugs. However, marijuana still leads as the drug of choice. Op...
