Satire in A Modest Proposal and South Park
Both A Modest Proposal and South Park works utilize satire in a similar way despite these two pieces of art emanating from different historical times. In A Modest Proposal, Swift uses satire to inform the audience of the impending societal problems. He describes the poor as seen in the eyes of the Irish landlords as filthy and having many children who were becoming a burden to society. Parents roaming in poverty, Swift offers a solution of the children being sold at a year old to be eaten by the rich. In turn, the parents would get money to cater for their own needs and clothes made form the infant skins. In this case, Swift never meant the literal eating of infants but the need for reformation and social equality in society....
