Myth of Sisyphus and Iconic Christian Imagery in Cool Hand Luke
The myth of Sisyphus, in the movie, is evident when Luke tries through all means to escape from prison; hence, not being fortunate. Similar to the myth of Sisyphus, where the character here is incurred with god’s wrath; and sent to the underworld, but nonetheless tricks his way out and returns to the earth. Likewise, Luke is not put off by the fact that the dragline captures him and vows to escape again. This idea is a reflection of a character who never gives up despite the harsh situation. However much Luke is arrested, the myth aims at reflecting a situation where the act of escaping is unattainable. Moreover, there seems to be no hope of ever achieving the goals of escaping, irrespective of the urge in him.
