The movie ‘Children of a Lesser God’ is an American film of 1986. The movie is a love interest story of James Reed, a hearing speech teacher, and Sarah Norman, a deaf custodian woman who worked at a school for the hearing impaired in New England. James Reed joins the school as a new teacher and renowned for implementing unconventional methods of teaching (Children of a Lesser God). Despite warnings by the school administrator Dr. Franklin not to institute creativity in his instructions, he goes ahead to utilize loud rock music as he had planned, aimed at producing vibrations that would help his students learn how to speak. James’ life takes a different turn once he meets Sarah, described as a beautiful, intelligent but bitter custodian, whom despite graduating from the institution, opted to remain and work there with individuals she considers as her people. He takes an interest and continually encourages her to learn how to speak audibly by reading lips. Sarah resists the suggestion as she thinks it is a waste of time. According to her, trying to talk was tantamount to trying to pass off as one who can hear, which was pointless. James makes advances at her, but out of fear emanating from sexual assault when she was a teenager, she puts him off. Eventually, James gets to her, and they fall in love while learning new ways of communicating with each other (Children of a Lesser God).
