“Child Of The Americas" Poem's Journal
This is a very touching poem especially in the way that Aurora Levins Morales put it in her literature. Morales speak of diversities of race, culture, ethnicity among others in the poem, as found in the society. So many people from mixed society are considered unfitting due to these diversities in the society and that causes inferiority complex on their part (Márquez & Roberto, 22) However, this poem brings out the need to embrace all of the diversities in every aspect, to eliminate the kind of problems that this poem indicates due to lack of identity.
The poet starts by describing a mixed race where the poem states, ‘a light-skinned mestiza of the Caribbean.’ This clearly indicates that sharing two races is normal and that should not mean that an individual lacks identity. However, most people are left with dilemmas, as they are confused on where they belong in the society. In addition, Morales states that she was born in the particular continent, at the crossroads, meaning that she is part of every tribe, ethnic group, race among others because she shares all.
