Biography of Karl Marx
Karl Marx was a renowned philosopher and revolutionary thinker whose work inspired the spread of Communism during the 20thcentury. He was also known as a historian, journalist, economist, sociologist, and political theorist. Marxism has influenced politicians, labor activists, intellectuals, and governments across the world. His body of work has also greatly influenced the modern foundations of social science. Karl Marx was born on 5 May 1818 in Western Germany and had a Jewish background. In University, Marx majored in Law and Philosophy before moving to Paris, where his communist ideas were conceived. His spouse was Jenny von Westphalen, whom he married in 1843 (Crossman). Marx believed that Communism arose from a historical process involving class struggles. He notably worked with his long-term partner Friedrich Engels in 1848 to publish the 'The Communist Manifesto.' This is one of his most famous work, and the pamphlet discussed the class struggles which have been prevalent in human history.
Marx advocated for a classless and communist society based on the concept of historical materialism. His ideas opposed capitalism, which he argued created tensions and conflicts. Instead, he saw Communism as promoting freedom and stability within society. Karl Marx stayed in London during the latter years of his life, where he authored his flagship project 'Das Kapital.' Karl Marx’s work centered on contemporary philosophical fields covering politics, social sciences, morality, economics, and history.
