The contribution of Jalal ad-Din Rumi works to Persian Poetry, theology, education and philosophy is un-paralleled. Jalal ad-Din Rumi was one of the founders of Sufism and the religious group owes a lot to him. Jalal ad-Din Rumi’ contribution to the human race is best captured by his words that 'Love is the ark appointed for the righteous'. The Persian literature, music, poetry and religious thoughts that he promoted best summarize his contributions to his society and humanity in general. He promoted tolerance amongst the people, provoked the society into a great reawakening and moral development.
Birth
Rumi was born in 1207 in Balkh, in today's Afghanistan to Baha ad-Din also a respected scholar in the society. Jalal ad-Din Rumi's life was affected early in his life when his family had to migrate from their native land due to the threat from another tribe. In deed Jalal ad-Din Rumi's love for Poetry and Persian Literature was also influenced by Farid od-Din Attar who was also an authority in Persian Literature. Jalal ad-Din Rumi's life could also have been impacted highly with his mother's death in 1228.
