Filter bubbles represent a situation where a person only consumes information that suits their story, experience, opinion, and view of the world. These bubbles are made possible by algorithms which personify information. The algorithms collect information on a person and learn their preferences, opinion, personality, etc. This information is then used to customize what one can access online. Different websites make use of these algorithms, and examples include Facebook, Google, Yahoo Search, among others. When a user visits these sites, what they do, the links they open, what they like, the people they often talk to, are taken in as data. Slowly, the algorithms start top arrange information according to these variables. Ultimately, people find themselves in filter bubbles where the sites they often visit are the ones displayed.
Filter bubbles are dangerous because they seclude a person from the world. Slowly, a person is isolated from the world and starts to live in their own world with information that meets the requirements of this world. For example, a conservative will never get an opportunity to understand the liberals because the information they will get will only meet their conservative ideas.
