Battle Royale is the story of a young African American who is living an extremely hard life and is struggling to find his footings in twentieth century Southern America. It is a short story that contains a lot of imagery and satire which tells the reader of all the horrific experiences that the protagonist went through. He lives a life full of struggle and believes in working hard to achieve ones goals. Humility and humbleness are the traits that he has acquired. The story narrates the experience of a single night where he is put in a boxing match that is inhuman and extremely brutal in nature. This is evident from these lines of story: "Our white is so white you can paint a chunka coal and you`d have to crack it open with a sledge hammer to prove it wasn`t white clear through..." (Barnet, Burto and Cain, p.308).
