Sean F. Reardon argued in his article that the socioeconomic status of a family is a powerful indicator of academic success among students. I strongly agree with Reardon's claim because of the better preparedness of high-income families over the low-income ones in investing in their children’s cognitive development. I agree that poverty is a hindrance to academic excellence. Although being poor can be a good motivational drive for a person to do well at school, being rich can give you more access to better resources and better preparation tutors; thus, having better school performance than poor children (Reardon, par. 19).
