Comparison and Contraction between the American and Chinese Education Systems
The Chinese and American education systems are different, similar to the way the two cultures differ, with both the cultures and institutions having different aims. Many parents and teachers argue that Chinese education is an important stepping-stone for their children, as it provides them with an identity to their culture. Chinese institutions are known to emphasize on how fast students accumulate, manage, use and understand the knowledge’s logic and composition. On the other hand, the American education system has different qualities and considerations that make it more lenient compared to the Chinese education system. The American K-12 education system cultivates and promotes creativity in children. However, both learning systems are faced with a problem that is degrading the quality of education; it is academic cheating. Cheating is a problem that has plagued learning institutions in both China and America; each nation, however, has its way of tackling the problem.
Teachers and Parents’ Attitude
In Chinese schools, such as XXXX International School, cheating is a rampant practice that even teachers and parents are involved. Education is more of a status that can be acquired rather than a form of broadening the mind or grooming skills. This has led to some parents as well as teachers aiding students in conducting academic dishonesty. Stress is placed on the destination rather than the journey; this is how many parents and teachers condone the dishonest act. In American institutions, such as The New School, the cultural difference acts as the supporting factor in less rampant cheating. However, it is not enough to eradicate cheating, the school faculty, as well as parents, encourages the children to refrain from cheating, with the use of school policies.
Student Attitude
With these different levels of support, it is clear why Chinese students deem cheating as having no consequence. They are taught from an early age by their care providers that they can cheat if they want and if they can. The parents are under the impression that the child’s goal in life is getting into a good school and that is it. American students, on the other hand, are encouraged...
