In this event entitled 15 to Finish: A Proven Strategy for Success, speakers Dr. Matthew Robison and Elizabeth Thornton talked about the importance of taking 15 units every semester. The speakers talked about the program as a cost effective strategy and increases a student's chance for success. Using the data collected by the Complete America Survey, Dr. Robison and Ms. Thornton was able to give a compelling reason why students should always strive to enroll 15 units every sem. According to the survey, as students take more time to study, the lesser their chance is to graduate. Data shows that 18.1% of full time students of Associate Degree courses take four years to graduate while 9.7% of part time students took 8 years to graduate. Meanwhile, students of Bachelor Degrees take six years to graduate and 15.4% of part time students of Bachelors degrees take six years to graduate.
In general, I think the speakers did well. They were able to explain their points, as well as provide a strong basis for promoting 15 units as a norm for enrollment every semester. I like the event because it helped me to fully understand how to finish college in timely manner, without waiting time and money. At the event, I found a viable reason to really give importance to my studies. Also, the data presented helped me realize that my decision tΓƒ o study is more than just an economic decision - I have chosen to go back to school because I want to learn more about my field of study so that I can always give my best to the tasks I need to complete, and serve the people I engage with every day.
