The Republican National Convention (RNC) of 2016 in Cleveland, Ohio, was a success despite the anticipation of protests by law enforcement authorities. Some of the factors that created tension during the event were racial tension, history of police brutality in the region, and threats of protests by Donald Trump’s supporters if he was not nominated as the presidential candidate. Law enforcers learned various key lessons, one of them being flexible in managing the crowd. Police officers managed to disperse small groups of protesters by interacting with them. Second, they learned that the use of excessive force deteriorates actions by protesters (Graham). In that light, the public was not mistreated by law enforcers. Third, police officers learned that they should be well-prepared to handle public chaos but should not push people to riot.
