MEDICAL MARIJUANA SHOULD BE MADE LEGAL IN ALL STATES
Introduction
The debate on legalization of marijuana for medical use has been ongoing for many years. There is increasing evidence that use of marijuana for medical purposes is on rise (Wang, & Cataldo). Modern medical practices are embracing use of marijuana for treatment of numerous illnesses. The importance of marijuana is evident from the number of states that legalized this medicinal herb. For instance by 2016, twenty eight states had already legalized use of marijuana for medical purposes (Ellison). Legalization of marijuana for medical use therefore should be allowed in all states since twenty states have allowed legal use of the same in their territories.
Medical use of marijuana should be made legal because sick people should not be left to suffer when a solution can be found in marijuana. Although uncontrolled use of marijuana for recreation purposes can lead to withdrawal symptoms, the number of health conditions that marijuana can be used to treat or manage surpasses the challenge of withdrawal symptoms. According to (Ellison) marijuana can treat Alzheimer illness and other major neurocognitive illnesses. This evidence justifies why already the substance is legal in some states and beckons for the remaining states to join the camp.
Medical experts in California report that they have managed to treat over 300,000 people suffering from recurring migraine (Lusk, & Rutherfordo). These experts assert that cannabinoids, an active substance contained in marijuana is more effective compared to other conventional medicines for treating migraine headaches. There is nothing that gives any state a sense of pride rather than a good health of it residents or citizens. It is virtuous for states that are yet to legalize medical use of marijuana to change their mind. It is never too late to change; especially if the anticipated change comes with health reward.
How easy is it to restrict humanity from doing that which is forbidden? The answer to this question lies in the rebellious nature of mankind. It is customary for human beings to do that which is restricted either because of curiosity or desire to act smart. Even in states where medical use of marijuana is yet to be legalized, there is illegal use of the substance. National governments and other states spend billions of US dollars in prosecution of legal cases regarding medical use of marijuana. This government expenditure can be used for other more beneficial programs if medical use of marijuana is legalized.
I am convinced that legalization of medical marijuana is not a question of if but rather when the medical herb is going to be legalized in all states. Researchers will have confidence, time and resources to carry out more elaborate ...
