Inevitability of the Civil War
The Civil War is perhaps one of the most memorable conflicts that happened in the history of the United States. The conflicting battle between the Confederate states in the South and the Union in the North has led to the loss of countless of lives in the process. Accordingly, an analysis of the events that transpired and the underlying factors that caused the secession of the South has shown that the war is inevitable in nature. The subsequent section, discusses the reason why this is so.
On the one hand, the economic differences that exists between the two sides made the war inevitable. It was clear that the North was a more advanced economy due to presence of more factories and industries as compared to the South which relied on agriculture and the slave trade. Accordingly, since both of the main lifeline of the Southerners are heavily dependent upon the slaves, then the North’s strong opposition against made the former’s secession inevitable.
On the other hand, it was also clear that the secession was inevitable due to the aggressive and proactive actions of those who were taking charge. Specifically, these actions include the Emancipation declaration made by Lincoln without the full consensus of the South, as well as Preston’s active persuasion of the Commissioners saying that the war is inevitable.
