Introduction
The Romanov Regime in Russia lasted for approximately 300 years between 1613 and 1917. The leadership of this regime was hereditary within the Romanov family. Just like any other regime in any country today, the Romanov regime also had its ups and downs over its 300 years at the helm of Russia. It is believed that the foundation of Russian success, especially in its army, was laid by the early administrations of the Romanov regime such as Peter the Great among other notable leaders. Besides boasting about establishing the strong Russian military, the regime also did influence the modern day history in various ways. Most of the impacts that Romanov Regime made in the modern day history primarily occurred during the regime's last administration that was led by Tsar Nicholas II. They included issues such as the establishment of freedom of speech, freedom of worship and Civil right liberties among many others and were issued in different manifestos. The manifestos that were issued during Tsar Nicholas II regime advocated for what is known in the modern day history as democracy. The manifestos majorly agitated against the autocratic leadership that was widely being practiced by the Romanov Leaders. This paper shall, therefore, highlight in detail the significance of Romanov’s last regime to the modern day history of Russia.
Establishments of the Duma State
Duma state was some form of council that was founded in 1905 in Russia and helped a lot in bringing down the autocratic leadership that was being practiced by the Romanov Regime (Fleming, p 102). This establishment had a greater importance and significance to the people of Russia since it played a major role in legislation processes. This was because, before its inception, Romanov leaders were not guided by any form of constitution and were at liberty to create their laws and impose them on people without being questioned. However, this was not the case after the establishment of the Duma State where no laws could be passed without Duma’s approval. This way, Duma State seemed to have created a channel that aided in limiting the powers awarded to the then Romanov leader Tsar Nicholas II (Steagall, p102)
It can, therefore, be argued that establishment of Duma State played a major role in the shaping of various governments structures in present-day Russia. For instance, modern day parliament in Russia seems to be more or less the same as the Duma State considering the duties that it conducts. Today, the responsibility of parliamentarians is to legislate, make and amend laws governing the country. Also, Parliament plays a major role in ensuring that the president is not just solely establishing the rules governing Russia, as was the case in the earlier Romanov Regimes. With this in place, it can, therefore, be argued that establishment of Duma state within the Romanov last regime did play a major role in influencing the creation of the Russian parliament, which has to approve all the laws of the country before they are put into practice.
