The book of Revolutionary Mothers illustrates different duties of women towards the struggle for independence during the war in America. The author, Carol Berkin bases on the culture, various classes, and ethnicities of the American women. The author shows that all women played a crucial role in attaining American independence from the British colonists. For instance, the women acted as caretakers, companions, soldiers, and organizers of the American army. Not all women who vowed to fight for their nation were only loyal but also patriots to the country. The author, Carol Berkin refers to the women as African Americans and Native Americans. The work of this book is to connect the readers with the knowledge that without the women, the American men would have had a hard time to tackle the British army in the Revolutionary War. The author focuses on explaining the realities the women influence had on the struggle for independence. Besides, she also describes the relationship the war had on women in completely American society. The book shows a clear perception that society has to the roles of women. For instance, they had to stop their roles to assume the roles of the husband in the homes (Berkin 109). In my point of view, the book depicts the limited functions of women in society. This shows how women can have a powerful role in attaining specific objectives in society.
The author clear defines a new point of view women played in the war. For example, she shows the roles women played in the Revolutionary War for independence. They had to go the extra mile to facilitate men with what they needed in the war such as supplying firearms and providing food to the soldiers. Besides, women acted as spies as they informed the American soldiers on the British tactics. Not only has the author focused on the three women, Abigail Adams, Molly Pitcher, and Betsy Ross, but also she includes other women's efforts in the struggle for independence. The audience of the author is the public. She educates them that teamwork is the major factor that led to a successful fight against the colonialists. Furthermore, the author intended to teach the public and society that people have to use all means to achieve aims and goals in life.
