History affirm that sex has greatly influence the behaviors of people, including the social and political aspects of life. Many people have taken part in sexual behaviors and influenced the social, cultural, as well as political aspects of the society. The sexual behaviors of ancient people determined what was acceptable and what was to be rejected based on the values, norms, and mores of the society in question. In the Symposium, Plato argues that sex is divine. In this regard, sex does not simply belong to the ego but is an overflow that fills and stretches the boundaries of the ego. In the play Lysistrata, women utilize sex as a tool to advocate for peace and end war. Throughout the play Aristophanes portray sex as something that was used for political activism. In this play, the women refuse to offer men sex in order to end the Peloponnesian War. Another ancient literature that showcases he place of sex in the political and social system is the Twelve Caesars. It illustrates the scandals of Roman Emperors. Much of the politics and power in the Roman empire revolved around the ability of the people to express or show their sexual power. In this masterpiece, we can clearly see the sexual attitudes that defined the ancient times. In the Symposium, we can see that people are invited into a celebration in order to drink and narrate their love stories. The narration reveals two kinds of love. Phaedrus portrays a love that sacrifices everything for the beloved, which is demonstrated by the relationship between Alcestis and Admetus. On the other hand, Eryximachus explains erotic love as a force that keeps the universe going as well as all the different elements found in it together. Throughout the text, Eros is understood or portrayed as an essential force of nature. All the people, including the social and political systems, are part of this essential connectivity from the Eros. There is no meaning to any circumstance or being in all the spheres of life except by the influence of the Eros. In this regard, Eros is the most essential duty of the self, and is perceived as body and spirit. Based on the two types of love described in the Symposium, a lover driven by pleasure is usually centered on himself and usually protects his partners from the family wealth and hopes that they will remain single as long as they want in order to enjoy him or her. Additionally, sex influences the social patterns because it makes the lover very obsessive and clingy.
