The immigration of people from other countries into the United States led to an increase in foreign nationals into the country. One accelerating factor was the reduced costs of sail to steam power during that time. With more people merging to the same regions, the item of culture was a concern. Immigrants did not adapt to the American culture instantly, leading to the balkanization of the entire American population and its culture.
