The story of Medici family began in the 12th century, when the family members of the Medici family immigrated to Florence City. Through the family’s success in commerce and banking in the 13th century, the Medici family became one of the most important houses in Florence (Barton). During the Italian Renaissance, the era was symbolized by experimentation in government, psychology, sociology, art and Florence was the city that was leading in all these developments. Florence formed city-states with other urban centers as a result of the war, and these city-states were rich urban centers whose richest class had freedom, money, and time for arts. To provide more insight on the Medici family, this paper seeks to assess the significance of the Medici family for Renaissance Florence.
The Renaissance Florence was ruled by rich merchants and nobility. The rich merchants built enormous mansions, villas, and even contributed to the construction of cathedrals.
