Modern Cubism
The artistic style of Cubism was conceptualized by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. They felt that artistic works that intended to portray three-dimensional perspectives used trickery through the use of borders and shading. Picasso felt that geometrical angles could better present the dynamic view of an object through the use of cubist mechanisms. This revolutionary stylistic device of painting influenced the future everyday objects into geometric outlines.
The origin of cubist architecture was anything but usual at its time of conception. It is reported to have begun in 1912 inside a Paris salon. A French sculptor called Raymond Duchamp-Villon designed and exhibited a model of a 10 by 3 cubist house. Once the model was fully furnished and decorated with cubist paintings to boot, it was then put on a show in Paris and shortly after, in New York (Klopper, 2015). Not long after these events, the construction of cubist architecture was seen in Bohemia, currently known as the Czech Republic.
During the 20th Century, buildings constructed with the cubist style were on the upturn after the First World War, which brought along its influence due to the meeting and influence of different perspectives on the concepts of art and design (Elleh, 2016). Soon after, a hybrid style referred to as ‘rondo cubism’ was conceptualized in Prague, a style which borrowed aspects of round shapes mixed in with the cubist architecture
