Judeo-Christian and Navajo Power Relations
In almost every stories of creation throughout the world, the relationship between a higher being, humans, as well as other creations are surely one of the moral lessons that could be seen. Whether it be the Judeo-Christian version of creation or Navajos tale of emergence, it was the love of the higher being, which was regarded as the main reason for the man’s existence. In the Christian version, this lesson of love could be seen in God’s way of giving man everything that he would need. In the Navajos version, this similar affinity of higher beings towards caring for humans is portrayed in Begochiddy’s (that son of the Sun) act of planting the reed in order to let his creations to find a place where they could flourish. However, not all myths of creation are very similar in terms of plot as well as morals. Although most of them equates human as a creation of a higher being (e.g. Book of Genesis), stories like those of Navajos suggest that humans could also be higher being on their own. This is more particularly because of the fact, that the Navajos version of emergence showed a higher being (e.g. Begochiddy) living among the first man, woman, and animal.
Aside from this, by reading and comparing these pieces of literature one could notice that mostly all of these myths have shown the role of humans in caring for other beings created by their god. In the Christian ...
