J. Hector St. John de Crèvecœur was born in France. There was a time where he lived in America during his lifetime. He was a great author and a diplomat as well. He was known for his writings during the American Revolution. He further went ahead to write “What Is an American?”. This was the third letter from his famously known Letters from an American Farmer. This is where the French man buys a farm after his service in the Indian and French war has ended. As he starts living his life, he gets married and ends up living the life of an American Farmer. His life was going on smoothly till the American Revolution turmoil forced him to join the refugees in the New York City. Sadly, he is suspected to be a British spy who leads to his imprisonment. He then sailed back to his homeland in France, where he went to see and take care of his sick father. While in France, he wrote about the American culture and agriculture. It was then when he wrote the third letter. The essay discusses aspects of the book in addition to other voices of the great people of America.
Judith Murray, Thomas Jefferson among other authors, wrote on various issues. Judith wrote on the equality of the sexes while Thomas wrote about race and slavery. All this was aimed at having a voice and airing all the prejudices. Murray argues on the role of women in the traditional African society and how they are limited.
