There was anxiety among several slave owners within the jurisdiction of the United Statesupon the successful revolt by slaves at Santo Domingo which ended up in the independent of the republic at the start of the 19th century (Banks 1970). This in essence marked the beginning of the famous slave revolts and in essence sent jitters to the entire white majority populace across the Caribbean and North America.
The apparent uncertainty among the black community of slaves in the United States was however a predisposing factor to the failure of these revolts. This did not deter them either way and they organized themselves into proliferated groups and mounted successful riots around the U.S and parts of North America. This in turn led to an unstable political class with many holding varied opinions and administrators being divided down the middle (Ford 2000).
