The Crow Crieth by Dil Hildebrand
Art is a reflection of the artist and their level of creativity. It is a reflection of what they feel and interpret their surrounding. As such, art can be seen as a way of expression by the artist to their viewers. This also means that they have to be in a position to communicate with their viewers in a rather intricate manner. The art that is discussed in this paper is by Dil Hildebrand titled Lorem Ipsum. The art was on display at the C24 Gallery, along the 560 West 24th Street. the viewership for the art at the gallery and precisely the Lorem Ipsum works, was between Tuesday and Saturday at 10am to 6pm. This gave the visitors who have a passion for art ample time to interact with the works of some of the most influential artists in this century. Dil Hildebrand is a Canadian artist and one of the most influential in the recent past. He has done quite a number of works most of which have gained him the recognition that he now enjoys (Tousignant, Isa).
To understand the art that is being presented, it is crucial to first meet the artist. This is crucial as it helps in understanding the art and the subtle meaning that is behind the expressions of the artist. Dil Hildebrand, was born in Winnipeg and has had quite an eventful career growth. Other than the fact that he graduated from the Concordia University this spring, he has graced the Ottawa National Arts Center, Montreal Parisian Laundry and Vancouver Contemporary Art Gallery. He has also had some solo runs at the Pierre Francois Ouellette art. At one time, he had his works purchased by Musee d’art contemporain de Montreal and has even won a major national painting award. This simply speaks to the fact that, he is not a novice in the field of art (Tousignant, Isa). He has some significant strides in his career and is already showing signs of growth in the future.
‘Though relatively new to the world of fine art, Hildebrand worked for a number of years as a scenographer in the theatre and film industries. That’s where he developed his eerie talent for hyperrealism. With his latest solo show, though, Hildebrand went to hitherto-unknown extremes. In an ode to all things meta, he combined a trompe l’oeil facsimile of reality with a movement away from representational painting.’ (Tousignant, Isa)
Prior to having his art presented in the galleries, he also worked as a scenographer where he gained massive skills to enable him to rise to the level that he is at in career. Over the years he has been in a position to develop his talent for hyperrealism (Tousignant, Isa). He mastered his skills especially with reference to abstraction painting different planes in one painting and a twist of illusion that leaves the viewers in awe. He is able to bend the rules and come up with something unique, that leaves the viewers with a stimulating encounter.
‘Hildebrand’s paintings have always carried a delightfully confusing multiplicity of realities. In 2006, he reinvented nature scenes by painting theatrical sets made to look like nature scenes. He’s now added a few levels of interpretation by painting what could be abstracted scenes of his studio, filled with paintings ...
