The Columbus' log sheds light on the kind of life and the lifestyle of some of the native Indian societies that Columbus interacted with and made observations on his way to India using the western route sea. This happened to be an original record of the facts associated with these native societies that had inhabited the new world before the destruction of the west European countries that followed slowly the footsteps of Columbus.
The Columbus' log provides some important information regarding these native societies. For instance, it states that the natives that Columbus met on the island of Lucayo were warm-hearted, welcoming, very friendly and extremely sociable people. They were peaceable folk's kind, with a cheerful disposition, had no weapons to speak of and were also gullible and pliable. This is explained when Columbus reckons that he could convert them into becoming Christians without any difficulties or use of force. ‘As I saw they were very friendly to us, and perceived that they could be much more easily converted to our holy faith by gentle means than force.' They were also experts in swimming, talented in the art of building canoes which could be curved out of single tree trunks.
