Question 1. Abstract Expressionism
The painters of the abstract expressionism movement aimed at expressing their profound experience innate in social alienation. To them, art was a channel to communicate to the world both in moral and universal terms their afflictions after the second world war. The artists needed something spontaneous out of the unconscious mind to create an artifact. Through such ideologies, there arose action painters who used expressive brush strokes on their canvas. Surrealism was a great determinant in the existence of abstract expressionism. This model utilized random subconscious creations with unexpected juxtapositions. The insentient expressions in writings and visual artworks by surrealist complemented the intentions of the abstract expressionism artists. Surrealism, cubism and other movements especially in Europe that emphasized on self-expression promoted the formation of abstract expressionism in New York.
Question 2. Pop Art
The myths of modernism had taken root in the 1950s and 1960s. during this time, high culture and modernism art were prevalent. These artistic models rarely acknowledged the low culture. Thus, Pop art emerged as a bridge between the low and high culture as expressed in modernism. The artifacts of pop art were inspired by the popular culture as exhibited in media and the people. In abstract expressionism, art was dependent on the creativity and perception of the creator on some issues.
