Read the article “Should the Electoral College Be Replaced by the Direct Election of the President?” by Arrington and Brenner. Examine the Positive (against the Electoral College) and the Negative (in favor of the Electoral College) opinions in the article.

Introduction
Despite having one of the most developed democratic systems in the world, America still maintains one of the most controversial processes of voting. This is in relation to presidential elections. After the whole voting process is over, the final decision of who becomes the president is only decided by a limited number of people not representative of the total number of those who voted. The college system of election that has been in place for years has many times been faulted as not being fully representative of the popular vote. There are four different instances where the president- elect of America was not the popular candidate as voted by people. However through the college system, they still got to power. This paper makes a comparative analysis between the college system and direct voting for presidents in America. The aim of the paper is to front the argument that direct voting would work better than the college system of elections.
One of the disadvantages of the Electoral College is that it waters down the democratic aspect. This is because democratically, the candidate with the highest number of votes is supposed to be declared the winner. However, this system sometimes revokes the logic assumption and the second runners up ends up taking the presidency. There is also the aspect of the actual way in which the College works.
