Introduction
A study was conducted in regard to the Lyme disease among outdoor workers. There are certain specific parameters that the researchers were working with. This discussion looks at the aim of the study, the method of data collection and whether the results obtained realized the intended goal of the study.
Data Collection
The goal or hypothesis of the author was to establish the risk factors or some of the key factors that predispose outdoor workers to the Lyme disease. Further, the author wanted to know some of the preventive measures and methods of removal.
Nature of Study
The nature of the study was both descriptive and case-control of nature. On one hand, workers, mainly working outdoor were selected from various regions with an aim of ensuring that the total sample was fully representative of the population. Blood samples of the participants were taken and tests were carried out to establish whether they would test positive for Lyme disease. The study was also case-control in that for some patients, there was use of repellents and antibiotics. This in effect reduced the chances of such workers from suffering from the Lyme disease.
The sample size was taken from four regions of the State of New Jersey. This was after reports were made indicating that there were several cases of the disease that has been recorded. The workers were mainly drawn from jobs that involve outdoor work, but they also included some of the indoor workers. The total number of participants was 1000 all drawn from multiple factors so as to be a true representation of the entire population. The main determination of the sample size was the site of work. There are specific sites that had been selected for purposes of participating in the study. These are area which has been found to be highly susceptible to the disease owing to the conducive breeding environment of the disease causing microorganism. In total, 12 sites were chosen for purposes of participation in this study. In choosing these sites, all key factors were considered.
