NSCS CHAPTER EVENT ON CYBER TERRORISM
Abstract
Technology has grown tremendously. As much as technology has come with its blessings, we can’t be mundane enough to proclaim its curses. Cyber terrorism has hit the advancement of technology with a bang. Cyber terrorism leaves the victim of the crime terrorized and in a panic mode. To some extend this type of the offense has not been well discussed by the society due to the less effect it presents on a broad scale. In line with NSCS scholarship spirit of impacting knowledge this paper purpose to highlight the risk of cyber terrorism and give an insight on how the situation looks like at the moment.
Introduction
Cyber harassment and intimidation have been on the rise. As much as this kind of crime may have a devastating effect on the individual it rarely causes havoc on a large scale. This type of the offence may be a nuisance, cause financial loss or disruption to the victim. The big concern is whether we should be critical of our lives or the infrastructure due to cyber terrorism.
Defining the Problem
Cyber terrorism can only be understood by understanding the meaning of terrorism. Terrorism implies unlawful or forceful sort of intimidation to the individual (Reich)or government for political advantage.
Hence from the above definition cyber terrorism can be understood as the use of or threat to use cyber systems unnoticed to intimidate a government or individual at some instance making one have a financial loss.
If the definition provided above stands as the global definition of the act, then it will be easier to develop a clear distinction between the modern cyber terrorism at the moment and before.
