High Education does not Guarantee Future Success
Work hard in your studies or you will end up in the minimum wage bracket. I’ve heard this statement a number of times and it always leaves me unsettled. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, 90 percent of the fastest-growing jobs in the future will require some postsecondary education or training. In some people's eyes, school is an indispensable element of success. Due to the high unemployment rate now, some young people believe that through the accumulation of licenses, knowledge can make future life stable. However, I do not believe that life requires one to study hard and get high academic qualifications because one can choose different ways or paths to success. For example, Steven Paul Jobs, the co-founder of Apple Inc, did not finish college but invented incredible smartphones. Bills Gates, a principal founder Microsoft Corporation, dropped out of Harvard University but at some point in his life, he became the most influential person in the world. Nevertheless, there is no denying that studying is a shortcut to success because when our talent cannot support our ambitions in life, all we have to do is to settle for education. It is not just the proof provided by the school. What is more important is whether we maintain a humble heart and think about our talents, traits, interests, and dreams? What kind of preparation for those dreams? Do we have the courage to move ahead without success or failure in the future? When we become a person in need, I consider the level of education will not become a criterion for success or failure.
There are numerous examples of people who never went to school or dropped out of college but went on to change and impact the world greatly. Although people still believe that higher education equals or guarantees success, numerous instances reveal that one can follow their dream or use their talent to rise to greater levels in life. Looking at the celebrities in the world today, many never furthered their education or had the opportunity to. However, they still managed to prove the society wrong by excelling in life and making a career out of talk shows, acting, or playing basketball. A good example is Ellen DeGeneres who is the host of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
