Spectrum of Credibility and the Credibility Clock.
Evaluate the types of information you consume.
There are four main types of information; factual, analytical, subjective and objective information (Liberti et al., p. 20). In my normal routine, I usually consume all these types of information, in different circumstances and scenarios. I take analytical information from mostly journals during my research work. It gives me a chance to critically analyze what other scholars are writing on, and try to come up with my own perspectives as well. I get factual information from statistical findings such as census and surveys, which offer a rather solid body of evidence. Subjective information usually emanates from my opinions as well as those of my friends, such as on social media and even blogs or personal videos. I usually get objective information from newspaper columns.
Do most of them fall on the less credible, more credible, or most credible segments of the Spectrum of Credibility?
When it comes to assessing these types of information on the spectrum of credibility, it becomes more vivid to note that each has its own score. Factual and analytical information scores quite high on the spectrum due to the fact that they are typically based on proven research with concrete evidence. They are not a product of heresy and are therefore not affect by bias (Sanz et al., p.534). Factual information is the most credible, then analytical information is more credible. Objective and subjective information are less credible since they are based on personal opinion. On this lower scale of credibility however, objective information scores a bit higher than subjective since it tries providing a neutral opinion to an issue.
