An Event That Sparked a Period of Personal Growth and a New Understanding of Yourself or Others
By August 3, 2011, the thought of being young overtook my reasoning. I thought I was still a child to be pampered by everyone in my family. In my family, I was the last born, and it is like all the love and care of my parents, and my older sisters were turned to me. My father and mother did not care much about my older sisters. Everything was done for me, including making my beddings to brushing my school shoes. I grew up lazy without any sense of responsibility in my life.
I did not imagine that my life would one day change until one spring break. I went back to China to meet my family. As usual, my family members were waiting for my arrival. At first, the feeling of love to them overtook, and I did not realize anything unusual. After greetings and embracing my sisters and dad, I realized something strange; my mother was not there, I missed her cheerful face and voice at ones. I looked at dad with several questions in my mind, but dad too was having an unusual appearance. He had a sad face which is unlike; he had a lot of white hair on his head and was looking thin. My sisters too looked unhappy but tried to hide the feeling.
I inquired from my sisters what the problem was and why mom was not with them. The news was broken to me, "my dear mother was in a hospital bed, sick and helpless." Her condition required a bone marrow transplant and one of us, my sisters and I, was to donate the marrow. This shocked me, and at once my cheerful face turned pale, and tears rolled down my cheeks.
