An argumentative essay is a type of writing that demands a writer/student to evaluate a topic, gather and generate sufficient evidence to establish the different positions of a topic in a clear and succinct manner. This essay requires the author/writer to articulate his/her opinion on a certain topic while at the same time supporting the most logical approach with as much as necessary evidence. The writer is required to defend a particular position on the subject using evidence from literature and personal experience. To back up his/her viewpoint, the student/writer applies numerous arguments to prove his/her position. The sole purpose of argumentative essays is to try to convince other people to accept and agree with our facts and share our values and perspectives regarding a particular topic or subject.
Argumentative essay calls for an in-depth and far-reaching research on previously published material and literature in libraries and the web.
