The field of design is highly competitive, and this means that leaders will need exemplary leaderships skills including emotional intelligence, ability to inspire and motivate, being obsessed with success, resilience capacity, and interpersonal skills that can lead a team But traits like emotional intelligence, future-obsession, and ability to trust rise to the top. In practice, managers of design within companies operating in fields of design leadership (Björklund, Tua, et al. 120). The two terms are interdependent. The design leadership helps to define the future, and design management provides essential tools for reaching there. Both are critical to the business, government, and society. The two are also necessary to maximize value from activity design and investment. Design leadership generates innovation design solutions.
Leading a team of designers demands special leadership skills. The designers are people who are talented and have a tight grasp of what they are doing. More often, designers are hired because they are problem solvers. As a leader, the designers ought to get freedom or liberty regarding what they are doing. In this case, a leader should be a source of powerful ideas and suggestions that could inspire the team. As a result, the leader should nurture, trust, sharing of big ideas, empathy, emotional intelligence, transparent communication, future-orientation, visionary thinking, and humility.
Most organizations, including design ones, require robust leadership and management for the optimal efficiency of the organization. The leader’s role is gaining importance, while managers are strategists and mentors (Falkheimer, Jesper, et al. 95). As leaders, managers should always act as mentors to the employees of the organization. When a capable and skilled worker leaves the organization, the organization is affected until they can find a substitute. Even if someone ideal gets the vacant post, they must train, offer motivation, and .inspiration to the recruit.
