A Human Relations Concept
Introduction
Employee relations is a significant element in human resource management. Employee relations, therefore, involve a body of approaches primarily concerned with the maintenance of employer-employee relationships that satisfactorily enhance the productivity, morale, and motivation of these parties. Mostly, employee relations are attributed to an approach directed towards preventing and resolving issues involving workers which affect work situations. Human resource specialists require knowledge and understanding on the inclusion of effective measures of enhancing employee relations, subject to which a limited value would result in the lack of competency in solving problems within an organization.
Establishing employee relations includes processes aimed at the development, implementation, administration, and analysis of these relationships by performing routine evaluations of it; ensuring relations with employees are in compliance with the applicable state, federal, and local laws and regulations; managing employee performance, and solving conflicts of interest that arise among employees. Moreover, the development of employee relations in organizations needs to focus on communication, career development, metrics, legal and regulatory issues, and outsourcing within the employee relations field. This paper seeks to apply this human relations concept to a situation in my profession. Through this, the paper will determine the manner in which the concept was exemplified in addressing the situation.
Situation in my Profession
Modern business operations impose several conditions among employees to the extent that moral relationships between the employees, their employers, and potential customers’ aspects that are influenced by internal and external factors. According to Borsos, close to half of a company’s employees spend three-quarters of their time in the office on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media and networking sites. Currently, globalization has made it easier for people to shop online, run their personal errands wherever they are and even get manicures in the comfort of their desks (501). As workdays get longer, employees find approaches of improvising ways that take advantage of a connected mobile work environment for their use. In this process, the productivity of companies is reduced by such acts under the assumption that employees are manning their work-life balance.
Within my work environment, the internet had sumptuously become an integral part of the employee’s life, an aspect that is evident among the current generation. Most of the employees in the organization have found business in surfing the net as an approach to efficiently communicate with their peers, organize their online garment deliveries, make doctor’s appointments, purchase their meals through the online portals and check their bank balances. The access to the internet within our workstation has seen employees readily utilize Wi-Fi in managing their personal businesses and lives (Borsos 502).
