Rosephanye Powell, Anne Duraski, and Joshua Pifer
This concert report is on the performances of Drs. Powell and Pifer, along with Anne Snow Duraski and featuring Emma Dansak at the Goodwin Recital Hall. I found their performances to be an emotionally stirring one with an assortment of unique musical combos. It was a great opportunity to experience a variety of music with a unique interpretation. It was not only the music that made it an eventful evening, but the atmosphere and the ease of the whole performance.
The first three pieces that I heard were particularly moving. The Barcarolle had a melodic motion that gave it a playful sound despite being quite romantic. In the entire performance, I quite enjoyed the two soprano voices, though I believe that Miss Duraski’s mezzo soprano voice stood out from the rest. The next two pieces were equally moving though more refined. Emma Dansak was captivating with the viola and Dr. Pifer’s masterful rhythm on the piano beautifully complimented it. The sharp breaks in between verses kept the audience in place as we waited for each next line. It was followed by another of Brahm’s music and the expressiveness of the vocal for this song filled the hall with a hopeful ambiance, like being cradled in preparation for another beautiful day.
