Introduction to music course.
Over the previous years, I used music as my source of identity and entertainment purposes only. Contrary, my approach towards music changed when I realized that most songs were my source of inspiration. Other songs help me to cheer up and overcome sadness. Other songs were my source of motivation and listening to them helped not to give up. Music have given me a better way of expressing my emotions. Also, I have learnt to understand what other people go through in different parts of the world. Therefore, I discovered that music plays different roles in our daily lives and people are differently inspired by music.
My style of listening to music have changed. I have learned how to pay close attention to words, tone and the instrumental. This has helped me to analyses the message and creativity from various musicians. It is correct to say that music instrumentals add value to the words making the song to effectively transfer the message. For instance, sad songs are created by sad and soft instrumentals and a sad tone.
During twentieth century, America underwent various changes. This was as a result of industrial development, integration and globalization. Music was a tool used to reflect various dynamic movements for change including fight against poverty, civil rights and labor movements. Henry Cowell and Harry Parch were among influential musicians in America in the mid twentieth century. Henry was an expert in western related music and instrument while Harry used Indian and African founded instruments to create music (Kristine Forney, 2017). Their skills of applying foreign techniques in composing music is inspiring. This is important because both Henry and Harry shows passion and a sense of identity by learning foreign music techniques and incorporating it with important aspects of daily activities.
John cage, a music composer born in Los Angeles, was a passionate musician who invented a prepared piano in late 1930s. John was interested in rhythm and opposition between songs and noise (Kristine Forney, 2017). He worked in orchestral music, prepared piano duties, wrote music and played electronic music. John cage was very expressive in turning imagination into music. This was clearly noticed after perfect improvisation of songs by sonatas and interludes.
