Essay Instructions:

This assignment asks that you write an essay of 5-7 pages (around 1500 words) in which you compare two works of visual art, music, literature, or architecture. The creation of the two pieces must be separated by at least 100 years. You will explore similarities and differences between the two works, and you will make a case for examining the pair of works together. In constructing the comparison, consider the aesthetic dimensions of the pieces as well as the ideas and beliefs that they seem to express. You might also reflect on the differing contexts in which the two pieces were produced, and what you imagine the function of each was in its own time and place.
You can look at a pair of works from the same medium or genre (that is, compare a sculpture with a sculpture or a poem with a poem), or you can put together works from different media or genres (that is, compare a painting with a symphony or a building with a novel). You may use pieces from the textbook, but you should offer an original comparison—not one that we’ve talked about in class or that’s made in Arts and Culture. Remember that at least a century needs to separate one piece from the other.
Your job is not to pass judgment on the works you’re examining—you’re not being asked to give a thumbs-up or thumbs-down on the pieces under consideration. Rather, your job is to describe your perception of the works, what they have and don’t have in common, and their broader significance.
While not a full-blown research paper, the assignment nevertheless asks that you consult legitimate outside sources to help support the argument you make in the essay. We’ll discuss approaches to evaluating the legitimacy and reliability of sources during visits to the college library, and we will review information resources available on campus.
The essay should:
be well organized, with a clear argument and concrete examples to support it;
feature an introduction and conclusion, with logical paragraph development throughout;
include corroboration from three outside sources (articles, books, database entries, non-Wikipedia webpages, and others), all of which should appear in a works-cited page in MLA style (a primer on MI.A style is available here:

present original ideas in your own language (when others’ work is borrowed, be sure to use quotation marks and to cite properly; review the course syllabus for a word on plagiarism); and

Sculpture is a branch of visual art that represents majority of the surviving art works from ancient cultures. In the modern world, the statue of liberty and the Orator are significant sculptures that reflect the ancient world. The orator displays Etruscan art work that was produced during the expansion of the Roman territory. The statue of Liberty depicts how all Americans acquired liberty in a time when slavery was common and other nations were struggling to attain democracy. This paper aims at describing the design and components of the two sculptures, the context in which they were produced, their connection to Roman art, and their broad significance.
The statue of liberty
The Statue of Liberty officially identified as Liberty Enlightening the World is a neoclassical sculpture in New York on Liberty Island. Fredric Bartholdi designed the whole statue while Gustave Aiffel designed its metal framework. The Statue of Liberty is a stature of a robed Roman liberty goddess. The right hand of the woman has a torch that is over her head while her left hand bears a tablet written July 4, 1776 (the date of US declaration of independence) in Roman arithmetical. As she walks forward, there is a broken shackle and chain at her feet to represent the abolition of slavery in the US. The statue is made from steel and copper and was a gift to the Americans from the French. Even though the statue has a thin copper skin, it weighs about 450, 000 pounds while the Lady of Liberty is more than 111 feet tall from her feet to the top of her head (Blanchet, p 4).
