1 What does Crary mean when he talks about "decorporealizing vision"?
According to Crary, decorporealizing vision explains the art of isolating the concealed mystic perception from reality known to exist. For instance, a picture meant to capture a certain specific view brings to mind what existed beyond its defined frame. Detaching the mysteries from the caption by focusing on intended details alters the mind's logic. Crary argues that the camera obscura was a method of decorporealizing vision, separating the action of seeing from the physical body of the observer. Crary also asserts that the body is a problem that a camera cannot solve except by marginalizing it into a phantom to establish a space of reason (Crary 30). The thought, therefore, pushes forth preserved memory forward in an attempt to relate and merge it with the observation eyes behold.
